New Savings Challenge in honor of National Pet Month!

Hi there friends! 

I've been at a loss about what my next savings challenge is going to be. While scrolling a cashback reward app, I saw quite a few money back offers for pet supplies and food. Since my senior pup is on a fairly strict diet, I typically ignore those deals. 

However, since May is National Pet Month in the US (April in the UK), I felt compelled to do something and decided to start a savings challenge to donate to a local shelter.

I am starting this challenge now with the hope (goal!) of having it completed by the end of May. Once complete, I'll jump on the app to make my shopping list and head to the store to grab those treats for the lucky animals.

I know I could easily donate the cash saved, but I wanted to make it a bit more fun by personally shopping for the animals. Dependent on how well this challenge goes, I'm eager to do it again, with my cashback reward app taking charge of my shopping cart! 

Let's Roll

Wow! I finally reached $60 this month, thanks to quite a few bonuses that popped up in my survey app. I've found completing surveys consistently triggers weekly bonuses. Win!

My FREE 30 Deposits Survey App Challenge definitely helped me reach that $60 goal. I only have 17 more deposits left on my challenge sheet. Almost half way to the finish line!

Since I typically start with $55, I'm going to add $5 to my Squirrel Away Savings challenge to get the games going.

As you may remember, I don't have dice at home, so I use this free dice simulator for my rolls: https://www.calculator.net/dice-roller.html 

Starting with the $55 dollars, I'm going to roll a D4 to pick the challenge, then roll a D8 for amount saved. Kinda confusing, but should be fun! 
Here is my tally for the games:

#1: $3, $1, $2, $4  = $10
#2: $8, $7, $2, $5, $1 = $23 *Brand New!!
#3: $3 
#4: $2, $5, $3, $6, $3 = $19 

Challenge 1 gets $10 dollars, so I'll color in 5 dots.
Challenge 2 gets $23, nice start to a new challenge!
Challenge 3 gets $3 dollars, so I'll cross off 1 - $3 raindrops.
Challenge 4 gets $19 dollars, so I'll color in the remaining dots and this challenge is complete!! 

Savings Challenge #1

I'm using one of her March Madness 2026 challenges to save $84 (42 dots x $2). As of today, I have $34 saved! The money saved is earmarked to special order dry organic beans from a local farm. The company offers free shipping on orders over $50 (more than half way there!!). The remainder will probably be rolled into my Squirrel Away Savings.

This challenge is for $50, with each part of the paw print worth $1. I rolled $23 this month, not a bad start to this savings challenge!

This challenge is actually taking longer than I had anticipated. Glad it's for an expense due in December. As of today I have saved $35. Only $30 more to go! 

I'm going to bet myself $5 this challenge is completed by July.... If July passes and I still have raindrops, I'll put $5 in my Squirrel Away Savings. 😅

Freebie Friday the 13th: It's Raining Savings!

Planning for March 2026: Zero-Based Budget as a First-Time Homesteader

Spring is almost here friends!  We are hitting a big milestone this month and finally paying off our trailer. It took us about a year, throwing as much extra cash we had at it. Following are our fixed expenses for March: Cell Phone: $130 Car Payments: $1140 Trailer: $160 **PAID OFF Insurance (i.e., car, medical, etc.): $350 Waste Management: $47 Internet: $120 Subscriptions (i.e., streaming services, etc.): $52  Total: $1999 Paying off the trailer is huge, and means we'll have $1000 to put somewhere else next month. This month, after paying the $160 owed (that interest will get you every time!), I had $840 left over. $40 got diverted to my garden savings account, and $800 will go to the home improvement variable expense to help with permits.
